24 April: The Government of India has disbursed ₹7,981 crore to strengthen educational support for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and equitable education.

The financial assistance is aimed at enhancing access to education through scholarships and welfare schemes that benefit lakhs of students across the country. The funds will help cover tuition fees, maintenance allowances, and other academic expenses, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder students from pursuing their studies.

Officials stated that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote social justice and empowerment through education. By providing targeted financial support, the government seeks to bridge gaps in access to quality education and improve overall enrollment and retention rates among SC students.

The disbursed amount is expected to significantly benefit students at various levels, including pre-matric and post-matric stages, as well as those pursuing higher education. Authorities have emphasized that timely release of funds is crucial to ensure uninterrupted academic progress.

The government has also focused on improving the efficiency and transparency of fund distribution through digital platforms. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanisms are being used to ensure that the financial assistance reaches beneficiaries directly, reducing delays and leakages.

Experts have welcomed the move, noting that sustained investment in education is key to uplifting marginalized communities and creating equal opportunities. They stressed that such initiatives can have a long-term impact on employment, economic growth, and social inclusion.

In addition to financial support, the government continues to work on enhancing educational infrastructure and promoting awareness about available schemes. Efforts are also being made to encourage higher participation of SC students in professional and technical courses.

The disbursement of ₹7,981 crore underscores the Centre’s commitment to building a more inclusive education system, where every student has the opportunity to succeed regardless of socio-economic background.
