New Delhi, September 3, 2026: The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with Intel India, has launched a new Agentic AI Skilling Initiative aimed at preparing India’s youth, educators and professionals for the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence-driven economy.
The initiative was announced during a National Leadership Dialogue on “Preparing the Future Workforce for the Agentic AI Era”, held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The programme brought together representatives from government, academia, industry, foreign missions and the skilling ecosystem to discuss the changing nature of work and the skills required for the next generation.
Preparing India for the Agentic AI Era
The discussions focused on how the transition from conventional and generative AI towards Agentic AI is changing workforce requirements.
Unlike systems primarily designed to generate information or predictions, agentic systems can reason, plan and execute complex tasks under human supervision. This shift is creating demand for new technical capabilities alongside adaptability, critical thinking, judgement and other human-centric skills.
Participants discussed the importance of industry-aligned curricula, practical learning, faculty readiness, AI-enabled educational environments and stronger cooperation between government, educational institutions and industry.
Two New Skilling Programmes
A key outcome of the dialogue was the introduction of two programmes under the NIELIT–Intel India Agentic AI Skilling Initiative.
Agentic AI for Everyone
The first programme is designed to introduce learners to AI agents, workflow automation and multi-agent systems.
It focuses on practical applications such as improving productivity, supporting business transformation and enabling intelligent decision-making. Learners will also get exposure to designing and managing AI-powered workflows through no-code platforms.
Engineering Agentic AI Systems
The second programme takes a more technical approach, focusing on the design, development and deployment of AI-powered agentic systems.
Participants will gain practical exposure to no-code and low-code platforms as well as code-based frameworks. Key areas include agent architecture, tool integration, orchestration, memory and deployment, with the objective of helping learners develop scalable and production-ready AI solutions.
Building a Strong AI Talent Pipeline
Speaking at the event, CBFC Chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati stressed the importance of continuous learning, employability and future-oriented skills as technology transforms workplaces.
NIELIT Director General Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi said the collaboration combines NIELIT’s nationwide skilling network with Intel’s technological expertise and industry perspective, enabling Agentic AI education to reach more learners and institutions across the country.
Meanwhile, Sudeep Shrivastava, COO of the IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary, MeitY, highlighted the importance of developing a strong AI talent pipeline and expanding hands-on exposure through AI-focused educational programmes, AI Data Labs and industry-academia partnerships.
Industry-Government Partnership for Future Skills
Intel’s Shweta Khurana underlined the growing importance of human readiness as AI systems become increasingly capable and move towards agentic and physical intelligence.
The collaboration between NIELIT and Intel India is intended to widen access to practical, industry-relevant Agentic AI learning opportunities. The initiative comes at a time when AI is increasingly influencing education, employment and business, making workforce preparedness an important part of India’s digital growth strategy.
The National Leadership Dialogue and the new skilling programmes mark an effort to strengthen government-industry-academia cooperation and build a workforce capable of working alongside advanced AI systems and contributing to India’s emerging AI economy.
