Reasi, September 3, 2026: A media delegation from Ahmedabad, on a press tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), visited some of Reasi district’s most significant infrastructure landmarks, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, Anji Khad Railway Bridge and Salal Hydroelectric Project.
The visit provided members of the media an opportunity to witness firsthand the scale, engineering complexity and strategic importance of these major projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chenab Railway Bridge Showcases Engineering Excellence
The delegation visited the Chenab Railway Bridge, one of the most prominent engineering landmarks in the region. Rising high above the Chenab River, the bridge represents a major achievement in India’s railway infrastructure development and forms an important component of the rail connectivity network in the Union Territory.
The structure has attracted national and international attention for its challenging location and advanced engineering design, particularly the construction required to withstand the difficult Himalayan terrain and environmental conditions.
The media members observed the bridge and its surrounding infrastructure, gaining a closer understanding of the technical and logistical challenges involved in its development.
Anji Khad Bridge Highlights Modern Railway Technology
The delegation also visited the Anji Khad Railway Bridge, another important component of the Jammu-Srinagar rail connectivity project.
The bridge is notable for its cable-stayed design and represents the application of modern engineering techniques to overcome the region’s difficult mountainous terrain. The visit allowed the delegation to examine the structure and understand its role in strengthening rail connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir.
Together, the Chenab and Anji Khad bridges demonstrate how advanced engineering solutions are being used to address geographical challenges and expand transportation infrastructure in the Himalayan region.
Salal Hydroelectric Project
The media delegation’s tour also included the Salal Hydroelectric Project, an important power-generation facility in the Chenab basin.
The visit offered the journalists an opportunity to learn about the project’s operations, power-generation infrastructure and contribution to the region’s energy network. The project also reflects the significance of the Chenab River in supporting both infrastructure and energy development.
Media Exposure to Transformative Infrastructure
The PIB-organised visit was aimed at providing the media with direct exposure to major development projects and allowing journalists to understand their broader significance beyond photographs and official presentations.
The tour highlighted how transportation and energy infrastructure are reshaping connectivity and development opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
For Reasi, the presence of internationally recognised engineering structures such as the Chenab Railway Bridge and Anji Khad Bridge has also strengthened the district’s profile as a destination associated with infrastructure, engineering and tourism.
The delegation’s visit thus offered a closer look at three important projects that collectively reflect India’s growing capabilities in railway engineering, infrastructure development and renewable energy generation.
