Kathua, October 25: The Health Department has intensified anti-dengue and anti-malaria measures in Kathua district following the reporting of 70 confirmed dengue cases. The ongoing drive focuses on mosquito control, preventive inspections and public awareness to limit the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
The containment campaign includes chemical spraying, door-to-door inspections and awareness activities to encourage residents to adopt preventive measures and maintain hygienic surroundings.
Health teams are working to identify potential mosquito breeding sites and sensitise people about the importance of eliminating stagnant water, which can provide favourable conditions for mosquito breeding.
Free Treatment Available at Government Hospitals
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Vijay Raina has informed the public that free treatment for dengue is available at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua and Sub-District Hospital Kathua.
He has urged people experiencing symptoms associated with dengue to visit the nearest government hospital for timely medical assessment and treatment rather than ignoring their condition or relying solely on self-medication.
Common dengue symptoms include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, nausea and skin rash. Warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, unusual drowsiness or difficulty breathing require urgent medical attention.
Public Urged to Take Preventive Measures
The Health Department has stressed that community participation is essential to controlling the spread of dengue and malaria. Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions:
- Remove stagnant water from coolers, containers, tyres and other household items.
- Keep water-storage containers properly covered.
- Maintain cleanliness in and around homes and workplaces.
- Use mosquito repellents, window screens and suitable protective clothing.
- Cooperate with health teams during inspections and spraying operations.
Health officials have also highlighted the importance of seeking medical advice promptly when symptoms develop, particularly during periods of increased transmission.
Containment Drive to Continue
The intensified campaign aims to strengthen mosquito control and improve public awareness across Kathua district. The Health Department’s efforts combine field-level inspections, chemical spraying and access to government healthcare facilities.
With 70 confirmed cases reported, residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities. Timely medical consultation, effective mosquito control and preventive action at the household level remain important measures in reducing the risk of further transmission.
