Government Women Degree College, Bhagwati Nagar, organised a colourful Diwali Mela, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity, artistic abilities and entrepreneurial skills through a variety of handmade products and festive attractions.
The mela featured an impressive collection of handmade diyas, rangoli designs, decorative items, homemade food and other creative products prepared by students. The event reflected the enthusiasm and artistic talent of young participants while adding to the festive spirit ahead of Diwali.
BJP MLA Arvind Gupta inaugurated the event and appreciated the efforts of the students and the college management for organising the initiative. He acknowledged the creativity displayed by the participants and highlighted the importance of encouraging young people to explore their skills and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
Emphasising the significance of the Vocal for Local initiative, Gupta noted that platforms such as these help promote locally made products and encourage people to appreciate the value of indigenous creativity and craftsmanship.
The event also provided students with practical exposure to various aspects of entrepreneurship, including product preparation, presentation and marketing. By showcasing their handmade creations, students got an opportunity to gain confidence, interact with visitors and understand the potential of turning creative interests into productive ventures.
The Diwali Mela served as more than just a festive gathering, bringing together creativity, cultural expression and the spirit of self-reliance. Such initiatives play an important role in developing leadership qualities, teamwork and practical skills among students beyond the classroom.
The celebration highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing talent and creating opportunities for young women to showcase their abilities. With its combination of traditional crafts, food and student-led activities, the mela offered a platform to celebrate both the festival of lights and the spirit of local enterprise.
