5 Aug: In a significant stride towards agricultural sustainability and post-harvest management, the Chief Minister, along with Minister of Agriculture Production Javed Ahmad Dar, Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor to CM Nasir Sogami, and MLA Arvind Gupta, inaugurated a 5145 MT Cold Storage Unit at Talab Tillo, Jammu, earlier today.

This much-needed facility is poised to become a game-changer for farmers across the Jammu region, particularly those dealing with perishables like fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and ample capacity, the cold store promises to curb post-harvest losses, prolong shelf life, and improve farmers’ bargaining power in local and national markets.

The timing of this development is crucial. With increasing agricultural output and diversification into high-value crops, cold chain logistics has emerged as a vital pillar for India’s farming economy. The new facility at Talab Tillo addresses a long-standing gap in Jammu’s agri-infrastructure, ensuring that farmers are no longer forced to sell their produce at distress prices due to lack of storage.

Moreover, the initiative reflects the government’s larger vision of doubling farmer income, supporting value chain development, and creating agriculture-linked employment opportunities. By providing reliable storage and reducing perishability, such infrastructure lays the foundation for agri-exports, food processing, and rural entrepreneurship.

With this bold step, Jammu reaffirms its commitment to becoming an agricultural innovation hub, equipped not just for production—but for preservation, profit, and prosperity.
