District-Level Programme on Commercial Floriculture Organised at KVK RS Pura

March 13: To promote modern flower cultivation and encourage farmers to diversify their agricultural activities, the Department of Floriculture Parks and Gardens Jammu organised a district-level programme on commercial floriculture at Krishi Vigyan Kendra RS Pura.

The programme aimed at educating farmers about the economic potential of floriculture and motivating them to adopt scientific techniques for cultivating high-value flower crops.

Floriculture Can Boost Farmers’ Income

Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Sayeed attended the event as the chief guest and appreciated the initiatives taken by the Floriculture Department to spread awareness about commercial flower farming.

Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that floriculture has significant potential to enhance farmers’ earnings while also contributing to agricultural diversification in the region. He encouraged farmers to explore the cultivation of flowers as a viable commercial activity.

Experts Share Knowledge and Experiences

Former Director Floriculture Ashok Gupta and former Project Director ATMA Ashok Kumar were also present on the occasion. They shared their experiences and discussed the increasing scope of floriculture in the agricultural sector.

The technical sessions were conducted by experts including Dr Sheetal Dogra, Professor at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, and Dr Rakesh Kumar, who provided insights into modern cultivation practices.

Farmers Receive Practical Guidance

Farmers from various parts of Jammu District participated in the programme and interacted with experts during the session.

They were guided on scientific methods of flower cultivation, pest and disease management, marketing opportunities and government support schemes related to floriculture. The interaction helped farmers understand how commercial flower production can become a sustainable source of income.

The programme concluded with a call to farmers to adopt commercial floriculture as a high-value farming option capable of improving livelihoods and strengthening the region’s agricultural economy.
