16 May: A four-day Inter Group Centre and Battalion Yoga Competition was organised by the Central Reserve Police Force under the aegis of Jammu Sector CRPF at Tactical Headquarters Boom in Ramban from May 12 to 15.

The event was hosted by the 84 Battalion CRPF with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, discipline, and stress management among CRPF personnel serving in demanding operational environments.

Seventeen teams representing different battalions and group centres from the Jammu Sector participated enthusiastically in the yoga competition, showcasing various yoga techniques, flexibility routines, breathing exercises, and coordinated performances.

Officials said the competition was organised as part of broader efforts to encourage yoga as a regular lifestyle practice among security personnel and to strengthen physical and psychological resilience.

Addressing participants during the programme, Commandant 84 Battalion CRPF N. Ranbir Singh highlighted the importance of yoga in improving mental clarity, emotional balance, and operational preparedness.

He stated that security personnel often work in stressful and high-pressure conditions, making practices like yoga essential for maintaining focus, fitness, and overall well-being.

According to CRPF officials, yoga has increasingly become an important component of wellness and fitness programmes within security forces due to its positive impact on concentration, stamina, flexibility, and stress reduction.

The event also aimed to encourage teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among personnel while promoting awareness about the long-term health benefits of yoga.

Participants performed a range of yoga exercises and demonstrated synchronised routines as part of the competition. Officials and instructors evaluated teams based on posture accuracy, coordination, discipline, flexibility, and overall presentation.

The competition witnessed active participation from personnel across multiple CRPF formations stationed in the Jammu Sector, reflecting growing awareness about physical and mental fitness within the force.

Officials said such initiatives not only contribute to better health outcomes but also help personnel remain mentally prepared for operational responsibilities in challenging environments.

Yoga has gained increasing prominence across India in recent years, especially after the global recognition of the International Day of Yoga. Security agencies, educational institutions, government departments, and public organisations have been promoting yoga as part of regular wellness and preventive healthcare initiatives.

Experts often emphasise that yoga can play a significant role in reducing stress, improving concentration, enhancing breathing control, and supporting emotional stability — all of which are particularly valuable for personnel involved in security and field operations.

The organisers said the competition concluded successfully with appreciation for participating teams and officials who contributed to the event’s smooth conduct.

CRPF officials reiterated that similar wellness-oriented activities will continue to be encouraged to strengthen both the physical and mental preparedness of personnel serving in the force.

The programme also reflected the broader focus within security organisations on balancing operational efficiency with holistic health and well-being for personnel deployed in sensitive and challenging regions.
