NOV 11: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana across Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting focused on district-wise implementation, challenges, and strategies to accelerate rooftop solar (RTS) installations for promoting clean and affordable household energy.
It was informed that 5,413 consumers out of 13,579 installations have already received zero electricity bills, showcasing significant on-ground impact. The Chief Secretary emphasized that as an energy-deficit region, J&K stands to gain immensely from large-scale solar adoption. He urged Divisional and District Administrations to ensure timely, transparent, and efficient execution of the scheme.
Mr. Dulloo directed DISCOMs to intensify public outreach, assist citizens in vendor selection, and speed up installations. He also stressed the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation of district-wise progress.
ACS Power Development Department, Shailendra Kumar, highlighted the importance of coordination among banks, vendors, and district administrations to facilitate faster loan disbursement and consumer agreements. He urged financial institutions to promote available subsidies and low-interest options under the scheme.
MD JPDCL informed that J&K targets coverage of 83,500 households, with 76,000 applications received so far. Central Financial Assistance worth ₹96.68 crore has been released to 11,297 beneficiaries.
