AUG 31: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) concluded a successful two-day workshop and IEC activity on Sustainable Road Design and Dust Control Practices in Ghaziabad, the first in a series planned across nine targeted NCR cities.
Organized by CAQM’s Resource Lab, in collaboration with Raahgiri Foundation and support from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), the event aimed to build awareness and capacity among stakeholders for implementing CAQM’s Standard Framework for road development and dust mitigation.
The first day, held at Hindi Bhawan, brought together government officials, engineers, and enforcement agencies for technical sessions, issue mapping, and hands-on training. Dr. S.D. Attri, Member-Technical, CAQM, emphasized the importance of empowering officials with practical solutions for dust-free, walkable streets. He noted CAQM’s focus on working closely with various agencies across NCR to reduce air pollution and improve public spaces.
The second day featured an IEC activity at Kendriya Vidyalaya Road, Kamla Nehru Nagar, which turned into a vibrant air quality awareness zone. Highlights included breathing exercises, a cycling rally (“Pedal for Clean Air”), street play, art walls, and AQI awareness zones. Students and locals actively participated and took the Vayu Mitra Pledge to support clean air efforts.
This Ghaziabad event is the first of many similar workshops set to take place in cities like Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and others. CAQM’s Resource Lab will continue serving as a training and demonstration hub, promoting science-based, replicable solutions for dust pollution control and sustainable urban design across the National Capital Region.
