December 15:
The Government of India has significantly modernised Haj infrastructure to ensure a safe, efficient and hassle-free pilgrimage experience for Indian Haj pilgrims, with a special focus on preparations for Haj 2026. A key highlight of this transformation is the Haj Suvidha Mobile App and a fully digitised Haj portal, which now enable end-to-end online services for pilgrims.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha that pilgrims can now complete online registration, payments, health document uploads, real-time tracking and feedback submission through the digital platform, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency and convenience.

Robust Digital Infrastructure for Pilgrims

The Haj Suvidha App has emerged as a one-stop digital solution for pilgrims, offering real-time information, guidance and grievance redressal. For Haj 2026, the government will also provide Haj Suvidha Smart Watches to all pilgrims, assisting with navigation, location tracking and emergency alerts during their stay in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

These digital initiatives aim to particularly support senior citizens and first-time pilgrims, helping them navigate the pilgrimage with confidence.

Enhanced Medical Support in Saudi Arabia

To address the healthcare needs of pilgrims, the government has strengthened medical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including:

  • Round-the-clock clinics

  • Mobile medical teams

  • Dental units

  • Emergency medical services

These facilities are supported by trained doctors, paramedics and pharmacists, along with continuous health monitoring and robust pre-departure medical screening in India.

Upgraded Physical Infrastructure and Facilities

The government has also upgraded physical infrastructure to improve comfort and safety. Buildings in Makkah and Madinah are inspected and booked months in advance to ensure better and closer accommodations. Transport fleets, airport shuttles and air-conditioned tents in Mina and Arafat have been enhanced.

Training facilities at Haj House Mumbai and regional centres have been upgraded, while infrastructure at all embarkation points across India is regularly assessed and expanded in coordination with State Haj Committees and other stakeholders.

Stronger Coordination for Haj 2026

Several measures have been undertaken to improve coordination between the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Haj Committee of India and State Haj Committees. These include:

  • Periodic review meetings

  • Issuance of detailed operational guidelines and timelines

  • Regular consultations to streamline accommodation, transport, training and logistics

The strengthened coordination ensures timely execution of all Haj-related arrangements.

Improved On-Ground Support and Training

To enhance on-ground assistance, the State Haj Inspector (SHI) ratio has been improved from 1:300 to 1:200 and further to 1:150. The quality of SHIs has also been enhanced through Computer-Based Tests and interviews, ensuring deployment of well-trained personnel.

Focused orientation and training programmes are being conducted, particularly for first-time pilgrims, to ensure they are well-prepared for the journey.

Ensuring a Safer and Smoother Haj Experience

The comprehensive reforms across digital, medical and physical infrastructure aim to deliver a safer, smoother and more comfortable Haj experience. According to the Minister, these initiatives have already resulted in improved comfort, safety, efficiency and accessibility for Indian pilgrims.
