AUG 25: The Jammu & Kashmir administration has issued a weather advisory for August 25–26, warning of intense to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu Division and heavy rain across Kashmir Division. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the upcoming spell of rain poses a significant risk of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, particularly in hilly and vulnerable areas.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near rivers, streams (Nallahs), and unstable slopes or loose structures, as heavy downpour may trigger sudden flooding and slope failures. Disaster management teams are on alert, and district administrations have been asked to closely monitor vulnerable areas.
With monsoon activity intensifying, the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying regions and disruption of road connectivity cannot be ruled out. In past instances, heavy rains have caused damage to roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure, making precautionary measures vital for ensuring public safety.
The Jammu Division, in particular, is expected to witness intense to very heavy spells of rain, which could cause sudden surges in water levels of rivers and streams. Similarly, Kashmir Division will also see widespread moderate to heavy showers, heightening the risk of landslides in hilly belts such as Ramban, Doda, and Udhampur, along with mudslides in parts of north Kashmir.
Local authorities are urging people to stay indoors during intense showers, avoid unnecessary travel, and report any emergencies promptly. Those living in flood-prone zones and landslide-prone slopes have been asked to exercise maximum caution.
The advisory emphasizes the importance of community awareness, urging residents to rely on official weather updates and not spread or believe in unverified information. Authorities have reassured that all necessary measures are being taken to minimize risks and respond swiftly in case of emergencies.
The public is advised: “Stay alert, stay safe.”
