11 May: UDHAMPUR: A special training programme for Mahila Nigrani Samities was organised in Udhampur under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to strengthen awareness, surveillance, and rehabilitation efforts against drug abuse.
The programme witnessed participation from women representatives, officials, and community members working toward combating the growing drug menace through grassroots awareness and community involvement.
Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa attended the event as the chief guest and highlighted the importance of collective social responsibility in addressing substance abuse issues.
Speaking during the programme, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that women and community groups can play a crucial role in identifying vulnerable cases, spreading awareness, and supporting rehabilitation efforts at the local level.
Officials stated that the training programme focused on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction, methods of early identification, counselling support, and coordination with local authorities and healthcare agencies.
Participants were also sensitised about the role of Mahila Nigrani Samities in monitoring suspicious activities, encouraging community participation, and promoting a healthy and drug-free social environment.
Authorities noted that community-driven initiatives are essential for the success of anti-drug campaigns, especially in rural and urban areas where awareness and early intervention can help prevent addiction among youth.
The programme forms part of broader efforts being carried out under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to strengthen preventive measures, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation support across districts.
Women participants appreciated the initiative and expressed commitment toward spreading awareness within their communities and supporting efforts aimed at protecting young people from substance abuse.
