11 May: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV) in Madhya Pradesh and announced a series of rural development projects worth thousands of crores aimed at improving infrastructure and connectivity in villages.
Addressing a public gathering during the launch event, Chouhan said the new phase of PMGSY would focus on strengthening rural road networks, improving access to remote areas, and accelerating socio-economic development in villages.
He stated that better roads play a crucial role in connecting rural communities to education, healthcare, markets, and employment opportunities. According to him, improved connectivity is essential for inclusive growth and balanced regional development.
Officials said the projects announced under the programme include road construction, infrastructure upgrades, and initiatives designed to improve transportation facilities in rural and underserved regions.
The Minister emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening village infrastructure and ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country. He added that rural connectivity directly contributes to agricultural growth, trade, and better public services.
PMGSY, launched to provide all-weather road connectivity to rural habitations, has significantly expanded road infrastructure across India over the years. The fourth phase aims to further modernize and upgrade rural transport networks based on present-day requirements.
Authorities noted that the newly announced projects are expected to generate employment opportunities during construction while also improving mobility and economic activity in rural areas.
Chouhan highlighted that the government’s development vision focuses on empowering villages through infrastructure, digital access, and improved public facilities. He said rural transformation remains central to the vision of a developed India.
Local representatives and residents welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that improved roads and infrastructure would enhance connectivity and boost economic opportunities in remote regions.
