OCT 02: INS Sutlej, a specialised hydrographic survey vessel of the Indian Navy, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius on 29th September 2025 to undertake the 18th Joint Hydrographic Survey Mission. This initiative is part of the ongoing bilateral cooperation under the MoU on Hydrography, signed during the 14th Joint Committee Meeting earlier this year.
The survey mission aims to cover an extensive area of approximately 35,000 square nautical miles, focusing on collection and analysis of hydrographic data to enhance maritime navigation and ocean resource management. In a unique capacity-building effort, officers from various Mauritian ministries will embark onboard INS Sutlej to receive hands-on training in hydrographic data collection and processing, fostering skills transfer and regional expertise.
The deployment of INS Sutlej underscores the strategic maritime ties and scientific collaboration between India and Mauritius. The mission highlights both nations’ commitment to safe navigation, sustainable maritime resource management, and strengthening regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region.
By combining advanced survey techniques with capacity-building initiatives, this joint mission exemplifies India’s focus on promoting technological collaboration and mutual learning with partner countries. It also reinforces the long-standing bilateral relationship and shared vision for maritime security, environmental sustainability, and scientific advancement.
Through such engagements, India continues to bolster its role as a reliable partner in the Indian Ocean, while Mauritius benefits from enhanced hydrographic knowledge, training, and capacity development in maritime operations.
