DEC 22 : In a major boost to rural connectivity and infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir, MLA Doda West Shakti Raj Parihar on Monday inaugurated the 15-kilometre-long Dhansal–Assar road, constructed at a cost of ₹73 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The project marks the fulfilment of a long-standing demand of residents living in some of the most remote and hilly areas of Doda district.
The newly inaugurated road provides all-weather connectivity to several villages that remained largely cut off for decades due to difficult terrain and lack of proper road infrastructure. With its completion, thousands of residents will now have smoother access to essential services such as healthcare facilities, educational institutions, markets, and government offices.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said the Dhansal–Assar road is not merely an infrastructure project but a lifeline for rural communities. He emphasized that improved connectivity is key to inclusive development and economic empowerment in border and mountainous regions like Doda.
“This road will significantly reduce travel time and hardships faced by villagers, especially during winters and emergencies. It will open new avenues for growth, education, and healthcare while integrating remote villages with the mainstream economy,” he said.
Boost to Local Economy and Agriculture
The road is expected to play a transformative role in strengthening the local economy, particularly agriculture and allied activities. Farmers will now be able to transport their produce to markets more efficiently, reducing losses and increasing incomes. Improved connectivity is also likely to encourage small businesses, promote local entrepreneurship, and enhance employment opportunities in the region.
Residents expressed gratitude for the project, stating that the road has ended years of isolation. Many villagers recalled how poor connectivity earlier made even basic travel a challenge, especially during medical emergencies or adverse weather conditions.
Strategic Importance Under PMGSY
Constructed under the PMGSY framework, the Dhansal–Assar road aligns with the government’s broader vision of ensuring last-mile connectivity and equitable development in rural and far-flung areas. The scheme has played a crucial role in bridging infrastructure gaps across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in districts with challenging topography.
Officials present at the inauguration highlighted that the road has been built with modern engineering standards to ensure durability and year-round usability, even in harsh climatic conditions.
Public Response and Future Outlook
The inauguration ceremony witnessed participation from local residents, community leaders, and officials, reflecting widespread public support for the project. Locals termed the road a “historic achievement” and expressed hope that similar development initiatives will continue in the region.
With improved access and mobility, the Dhansal–Assar belt is now poised for accelerated socio-economic development, enhanced service delivery, and better quality of life for its residents.
The project stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure growth and addressing the long-pending aspirations of people living in remote corners of Jammu and Kashmir.
