AUG 21: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has taken significant strides to strengthen India’s food processing sector, with a special focus on supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In a written reply to the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Shri Ravneet Singh highlighted the impact of three major schemes—Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME).
Under the PMFME scheme, a total of 1,44,517 micro food processing enterprises have been approved for financial and technical support across India as of June 30, 2025. The scheme provides a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of eligible project cost, with a ceiling of ₹10 lakh per unit, enabling entrepreneurs to upgrade or set up micro food processing businesses.
To enhance capacity building, the scheme also provides training under Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP+) and product-specific skilling. Till June 2025, as many as 1,16,666 beneficiaries have been trained across the country, ensuring that India’s food processing industry has a strong foundation of skilled manpower.
The Ministry also clarified that these schemes are demand-driven and implemented nationwide, including in Bihar. Notably, the state has benefitted with 13 projects approved under PMKSY, 7 under PLISFPI, and 25,349 under PMFME.
Meanwhile, MSMEs are also eligible for incentives under PMKSY and PLISFPI, which aim at boosting infrastructure, capacity expansion, and investment in the sector. Together, the three schemes serve as a catalyst for MSME growth, enabling wider participation in India’s food processing value chain and contributing to employment generation, value addition, and export potential.
The Minister emphasized that these initiatives not only strengthen entrepreneurship at the grassroots but also play a vital role in realizing the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” by empowering local food businesses to compete globally.
