Dec 18: The 37th Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Senior Volleyball Championship concluded on a high note at Jammu, with Jammu District women’s team and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) men’s team emerging as champions in their respective categories after closely contested finals.
In the women’s final, the Jammu District team defeated Udhampur 3–1, displaying strong coordination, sharp net play and consistent defence to secure the championship title. The match witnessed spirited performances from both sides, but Jammu’s experience and composure in crucial moments proved decisive.
The men’s final saw a competitive clash between JKP and Jammu District, where the JKP team showcased superior teamwork and tactical execution to register a 3–1 victory, clinching the men’s championship title. The encounter drew applause from spectators for its intensity and high-quality rallies.
The championship brought together teams from various districts and departments across the Union Territory, serving as a major platform for senior volleyball players to demonstrate their skills and competitive spirit. The tournament also highlighted the growing popularity of volleyball and the increasing standard of sports competition in Jammu and Kashmir.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Ms. Yasha Mudgal, who congratulated the winning teams and appreciated the efforts of all participants, officials and organisers for the successful conduct of the championship.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner Secretary underlined the transformative role of sports in youth development and nation building. She stated that sports not only promote physical fitness but also instil discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience among young people. Emphasising the government’s focus on strengthening the sports ecosystem, she reiterated the commitment to providing better infrastructure, training facilities and competitive exposure to athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
Ms. Mudgal also highlighted that regular organisation of such championships plays a crucial role in talent identification and nurturing future sportspersons who can represent the Union Territory and the country at national and international levels.
Officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and representatives of the Volleyball Association were present on the occasion. They noted that the championship witnessed enthusiastic participation and reflected the steady growth of organised sports culture in the region.
The successful conclusion of the 37th J&K UT Senior Volleyball Championship once again reaffirmed the Union Territory’s commitment to promoting sports as a vital component of youth engagement, healthy lifestyles and social development.
