AUG 11: In a major push to build industry-ready digital talent, BSNL has signed strategic MoUs with Ericsson India, Qualcomm Technologies, Cisco Systems, and Nokia Solutions to launch advanced training programmes in 5G, AI/ML, cybersecurity, and networking at the Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT), Jabalpur.

The initiative is part of the Department of Telecommunications’ plan to establish the Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC) — envisioned as a national hub for telecom R&D, skilling, and innovation. TIRTC will serve as a Centre of Excellence for advanced communications, including 6G and 5G technologies, and support the Skill India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions.

Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, presiding over the MoU signing, called it “a landmark step in building a skilled and future-ready telecom workforce,” noting that Phase 1 will train over 2,000 students annually. Courses will range from two-week modules to 84-hour intensive programmes, aiming to position Jabalpur as a hub for cutting-edge technology education.

Under the agreements:

  • Ericsson will set up a 5G Centre of Excellence, offering hands-on and online learning through its global Ericsson Educate Programme.

  • Qualcomm will establish a Qualcomm Institute focused on 5G and AI, including sponsored training for the first 100 participants.

  • Cisco will extend its Networking Academy to provide free training in networking, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure nationwide.

  • Nokia will create a 5G and AI/ML Lab, training 300 students annually with joint certification.

This industry-government collaboration will not only train students but also upskill BSNL trainers, public sector staff, and telecom service provider employees. The initiative supports Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, and seeks to make India a global leader in telecom innovation and skilled manpower.
