APRIL 15: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will lead the Indian delegation to the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), scheduled to be held on April 17, 2025, in Brasilia, Brazil. Themed “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade among BRICS Countries,” the meeting is set to bring together Agriculture Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newly inducted members such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

This high-level ministerial forum aims to strengthen collaborative efforts among BRICS countries, especially in the fields of sustainable agricultural development, food security, innovation in agri-tech, and climate resilience in farming practices. The gathering will serve as a platform for member countries to share best practices, enhance mutual cooperation, and identify new avenues of trade and technology exchange in the agriculture and rural development sectors.

During his visit, Shri Chouhan will hold bilateral meetings with prominent Brazilian leaders, including Mr. Carlos Henrique Baqueta Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, and Mr. Luiz Paulo Teixeira, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA). These discussions will focus on fostering joint initiatives in agriculture, expanding technological cooperation, and reinforcing food security and rural development efforts between India and Brazil.

The Minister will also engage with leaders of major Brazilian agribusiness companies and meet representatives of the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries in São Paulo. These meetings aim to promote investment opportunities and collaborative ventures across the agricultural value chain, opening new doors for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Adding a symbolic gesture to his official engagements, Shri Chouhan will participate in a tree plantation drive at the Embassy of India in Brasilia under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. The effort promotes environmental awareness while paying tribute to the nurturing essence of motherhood.

In a bid to strengthen cultural ties, the Minister will also interact with the Indian diaspora in São Paulo, recognizing their contribution to bilateral relations and their role as cultural ambassadors abroad. This visit highlights India’s deepening engagement with BRICS nations and its strong commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive agricultural development globally.
