APRIL 26: In a determined move towards making Jammu a fully Open Defecation Free (ODF) city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is accelerating its efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure across all wards under its jurisdiction.
In a significant step in this direction, JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav laid the foundation stone for a new public toilet complex located below the bridge opposite Hanuman Mandir in Ward No. 13. The upcoming facility will feature two bathrooms and eight toilets, designed to cater to the sanitation needs of a diverse range of users.
The new complex is part of a broader city-wide plan to construct 16 modern public toilet complexes, with an estimated total investment of approximately Rs. 1.5 crore. These facilities aim to bridge the gap in public sanitation services and promote better hygiene across the city.
Strategically located near important landmarks such as a major bus stand, a Super Speciality Hospital, and en-route to the bustling Jewel Chowk, the site has been carefully chosen to serve commuters, patients, pilgrims, and pedestrians alike. The proximity to Hanuman Mandir also ensures that the growing number of devotees visiting the temple will have access to clean and convenient facilities, especially during major events like the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Devansh Yadav emphasized JMC’s commitment to public welfare through sustainable urban development. He stated that providing accessible sanitation facilities is a crucial component in enhancing quality of life and maintaining public hygiene standards, which are integral to achieving ODF status.
Dr. Yadav also highlighted that similar complexes would be developed in other high-traffic areas of the city to meet the increasing demand for clean and accessible sanitation options.
Accompanying the Commissioner at the foundation laying ceremony were several senior JMC officials, including Joint Commissioner Health and Sanitation Abdul Sattar, Joint Commissioner Works Firdos Ahmed Qazi, and Executive Engineer Project Lokesh Gupta, among others.
With initiatives like these, the JMC continues to reaffirm its commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment for all residents and visitors in Jammu.
