JULY 26: To commemorate the 26th anniversary of India’s historic victory in the 1999 Kargil War, Union Ministers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Shri Sanjay Seth led the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Padyatra’ in Dras, Ladakh. The event, organized by MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, brought together over 3,000 youth volunteers, along with war veterans, serving armed forces personnel, families of martyrs, and local citizens in a symbolic tribute to India’s brave soldiers.
The 1.5-kilometre padyatra, beginning at Himabass Public High School and concluding at Government Higher Secondary School, Bhimbet, featured vibrant cultural performances from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, showcasing the rich heritage and unity of the region.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated, “Kargil is not just a place in history—it is a living symbol of India’s resilience and unwavering spirit.” He urged the youth to embody the ideals of Nation First, contribute to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and honour the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Reflecting on India’s defence capabilities, Dr. Mandaviya cited Operation Vijay and Operation Sindoor as milestones that underscore the bravery and discipline of the Indian Armed Forces. He emphasized the role of Amrit Peedhi, the youth generation, in shaping a strong and self-reliant Atmanirbhar Bharat through active Jan Bhagidari (public participation).
Union Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, praised the enthusiasm of the youth and highlighted the invaluable contributions of India’s soldiers, encouraging students to uphold discipline and national pride.
Following the march, the ministers and 100 youth volunteers paid floral tributes at the Kargil War Memorial. Dr. Mandaviya also felicitated 26 female bikers from the Shakti Udgosh Foundation, who completed a cross-country ride in honour of the martyrs. The event concluded with a tree plantation under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, reinforcing the link between patriotism and environmental stewardship.
Leading up to the padyatra, MY Bharat conducted activities like essay contests, youth dialogues, and painting competitions to build civic awareness and foster a deeper connection between youth and the armed forces.
