JULY 29: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted two consecutive flight tests of the Pralay missile on July 28 and 29. The tests took place at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. These User Evaluation Trials confirmed the missile’s maximum and minimum range capabilities.
Both missiles hit their targets with pinpoint accuracy, achieving all mission goals. Tracking sensors, including those on ships near the impact area, captured and verified the results.
Pralay is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile that uses advanced guidance and navigation systems. It can carry different types of warheads and engage multiple kinds of targets. The Research Centre Imarat led the development, with support from other DRDO labs, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd, and many MSMEs.
DRDO scientists, officials from the Indian Army and Air Force, and industry representatives witnessed the tests.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams. He said the missile’s modern technologies would strengthen India’s defence capabilities.
DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat also praised the efforts. He added that these successful trials pave the way for the missile’s induction into the armed forces.
