AUG 10: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, conducted an inspection of the ongoing bridge construction over Pedu Nallah at Mahanpur, a vital infrastructure project aimed at strengthening regional connectivity. During the site visit, he assessed the pace of work and reviewed progress with officers from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which is executing the project.
The bridge, once completed, will significantly improve the link between Mahanpur and Basohli, reducing travel time and ensuring smoother transportation for local residents, traders, and daily commuters. At present, the absence of a robust crossing at Pedu Nallah often causes inconvenience, particularly during the rainy season when water flow increases, making travel difficult and sometimes unsafe.
DC Sharma emphasised the importance of adhering to quality standards while ensuring timely completion. He directed the BRO officials to mobilise additional resources and accelerate the remaining work to meet the target date of August 20, 2025. He also called for close coordination between different departments to avoid delays and resolve any technical or logistical issues promptly.
Highlighting the bridge’s role in enhancing economic opportunities, the Deputy Commissioner noted that improved road connectivity will benefit agriculture, tourism, and small-scale industries in the area. It will also help strengthen access to essential services, including education and healthcare, for residents of Mahanpur and adjoining villages.
Local residents expressed optimism about the project’s completion, stating that the bridge will not only reduce travel difficulties but also open new avenues for socio-economic development. The DC assured them that the district administration is committed to fast-tracking infrastructure works that directly impact public convenience and regional growth.
With the August 20 deadline now fixed, the administration and the BRO are expected to intensify efforts over the next few weeks to ensure the bridge becomes operational, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people of Mahanpur and Basohli.
