AUG 13: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved an additional 1.47 lakh pucca houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), bringing the total number sanctioned to 8.56 lakh. The decision was taken during the 4th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) held on 12 August 2025 at Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi, chaired by Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, MoHUA.
The newly sanctioned 1,46,582 houses will be built across 14 States/UTs — Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. These houses will cater to urban poor families, providing them dignified and affordable housing with basic amenities.
The Secretary urged States/UTs to align housing projects with infrastructure corridors to promote integrated urban development, ensuring improved connectivity, economic activity, and service access. Shri Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary & Mission Director (HFA), encouraged larger States and metro cities to submit proposals under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) vertical to boost group housing projects.
PMAY-U 2.0, launched in September 2024, aims to provide financial support of up to ₹2.5 lakh to one crore additional urban families for constructing or purchasing pucca houses. The scheme targets EWS, LIG, and MIG families who do not own a pucca house anywhere in India, implemented through four verticals — Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), AHP, Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
The latest approvals include a strong focus on inclusivity: 75,417 houses have been sanctioned in women’s names (including single women and widows), 1,166 houses for senior citizens, 12 houses for transgender persons, 32,551 for SC, 5,025 for ST, and 58,375 for OBC beneficiaries.
So far, more than 120 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U, of which 93.81 lakh have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. Eligible applicants can apply at https://pmay-urban.gov.in/ or through their local urban bodies.
