AUG 14: In a unique fusion of patriotic fervour and environmental commitment, Samba district marked its Independence Day celebrations with both the national flag and new greenery taking root. The event, led by Deputy Commissioner Ms. Ayushi Sudan (IAS), brought residents together for the #HarGharTiranga rally, culminating in a spirited plantation drive that symbolised the region’s dedication to a sustainable future.
The rally, part of the nationwide “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative, saw participants march with the Tricolour through the streets of Samba, creating a vibrant spectacle of unity and pride. Students, officials, community leaders, and citizens of all ages joined in, transforming the occasion into a collective expression of national identity.
Following the rally, the celebrations transitioned seamlessly into an eco-friendly action — a large-scale plantation drive. Under the guidance of DC Ayushi Sudan, saplings were planted at designated locations, reinforcing the message that freedom is not only about preserving the nation’s sovereignty but also about safeguarding its environment for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sudan highlighted the importance of pairing patriotism with sustainability. She noted that just as the Tricolour represents the sacrifices and aspirations of the past, the newly planted saplings represent hope, growth, and responsibility towards the planet.
The event drew strong community participation, with local schools and volunteers actively contributing to the planting effort. Organisers said the initiative aimed to inspire citizens to take similar steps in their own neighbourhoods, ensuring that the spirit of independence extends beyond the day’s festivities.
The celebrations in Samba not only honoured the nation’s 78th Independence Day but also set an example of how public events can integrate environmental stewardship, leaving behind both memories and living legacies.
