AUG 24: The Election Commission of India has announced remarkable progress in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Bihar, with documents of 98.2% electors already received and only 1.8% pending submission. The claims and objections period, which began on 1 August 2025 after the publication of the draft rolls, will continue till 1 September 2025.

The Enumeration phase was conducted between 24 June and 25 July, followed by the release of draft rolls on 1 August. Since then, electors have been submitting their claims, objections, and necessary documents. The Commission has lauded the efforts of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar, District Election Officers of all 38 districts, 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 2,976 Assistant EROs, 90,712 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), lakhs of volunteers, and 1.60 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) representing 12 major political parties.

According to official data, in the past 60 days (24 June – 24 August), an average of 1.64% electors submitted documents daily, covering 98.2% of Bihar’s electorate. With just 8 days remaining, BLOs and volunteers are actively assisting the remaining 1.8% to complete submissions ahead of schedule. Concurrently, verification of documents is being undertaken by the 243 EROs and 2,976 AEROs.

Out of a total of 7.24 crore electors included in the draft rolls, 0.16% claims and objections have been received so far. These include 10 submissions from BLAs of recognized political parties, none from persons outside their constituencies, and 1,21,143 from electors within their constituencies.

Additionally, 3,28,847 new electors who turned 18 on or before 1 July 2025—or will attain voting age by 1 October 2025—have submitted Form 6 applications and declarations for inclusion in the rolls.

The SIR is progressing on schedule. All claims, objections, and document verifications will be completed by 25 September 2025. The final electoral rolls are set to be published on 30 September 2025, ensuring accuracy and inclusivity in Bihar’s electoral process.
