AUG 29: In the wake of the recent heavy rains and rising water levels, the Chief Minister today visited several flood-affected areas of Jammu to take stock of the situation on the ground. The visit aimed at assessing the damage caused by incessant rains and ensuring that immediate relief and rescue operations are being carried out efficiently.
During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns, and reassured them that the government stands firmly with the people during this testing time. He directed the concerned departments and district administration to remain fully alert and proactive in extending every possible help to the affected families.
The Chief Minister emphasized that all necessary measures will be taken to safeguard lives and property, particularly in vulnerable areas where the threat of flash floods and landslides remains high. Special instructions were given for strengthening embankments, ensuring availability of relief material, and maintaining close coordination between disaster management teams, police, and local authorities.
He also appreciated the efforts of rescue and relief teams who have been working tirelessly in difficult conditions to evacuate people and provide them shelter, food, and medical care. The Chief Minister noted that the government’s priority is to prevent further loss of life and minimize hardships for people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Highlighting the importance of preparedness, he directed officials to identify all critical spots across the region, carry out vulnerability assessments, and put in place early-warning systems. He also assured the affected families that the government will extend financial assistance and rehabilitation support wherever required.
The visit comes at a crucial time when many parts of Jammu are witnessing disruption in normal life due to waterlogging, damage to roads, and threats to agricultural land.
