SEP 02: Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, launched the Kapas Kisan app, a digital initiative developed by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) under the Ministry of Textiles. The app is designed to streamline Minimum Support Price (MSP) cotton procurement and ensure that farmers benefit from a transparent, fair, and efficient system.
Highlighting its significance, Shri Giriraj Singh said that the farmer-centric mobile platform will make cotton selling more convenient and safeguard cultivators against distress sales. By digitizing processes like self-registration, slot booking, and payment tracking, the app reinforces the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and aligns with the broader vision of Digital India.
The Kapas Kisan app provides multiple benefits:
-
Self-registration for farmers to enroll in MSP procurement.
-
Digital slot booking at designated centres to minimize waiting times and avoid overcrowding.
-
Real-time updates on quality assessment, accepted quantities, and payment status.
-
Multilingual support to ensure accessibility for farmers across different states.
The Minister emphasized that these features will not only increase transparency but also reduce paperwork, improve planning, and give farmers more control over their selling process. By enabling them to track payments directly through the app, cotton growers will gain confidence and assurance in timely transactions under the MSP scheme.
Shri Giriraj Singh further noted that this initiative marks a significant step towards digitizing agricultural procurement systems in India, ensuring that cotton farmers get their due without delays. With improved efficiency at procurement centres, the app is expected to strengthen farmer trust in MSP operations while contributing to the modernization of India’s textile sector.
