OCT 13:The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched CPR Awareness Week (13–17 October 2025) to promote nationwide understanding and hands-on training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) — a vital emergency procedure that significantly improves survival chances in cardiac emergencies. The campaign was inaugurated by Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava in New Delhi, in the presence of senior ministry officials, healthcare professionals, and civil society representatives.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Health Secretary emphasized the lifesaving importance of CPR and the need for widespread community training. “The simple act of performing hands-only CPR can sustain blood flow and oxygen supply to vital organs until professional help arrives, increasing survival chances manifold,” she said.
Smt. Srivastava outlined the Ministry’s vision to ensure that every household, school, office, and public space has at least one individual trained in CPR. She noted that around 70% of cardiac arrest cases occur outside hospital settings, where immediate medical aid is unavailable, making public awareness and preparedness crucial. “Timely administration of CPR by a bystander can mean the difference between life and death,” she added.
As part of the launch, participants took a pledge to spread CPR awareness and attended a live hands-only CPR demonstration conducted by medical experts. The demonstration illustrated simple, easy-to-learn steps that can be performed by anyone during a cardiac emergency.
The CPR Awareness Week 2025 features multiple events, including nationwide pledge ceremonies, physical and virtual training sessions, panel discussions, and expert talks, aimed at building community capacity and promoting emergency response readiness.
Over 15,000 participants from the health sector, medical institutions, and civil society joined the national launch event. The Ministry, in collaboration with MyGov and MyBharat, has also introduced an online pledge and CPR awareness quiz, accessible through official government portals, to engage citizens digitally.
This initiative marks a major stride toward creating a CPR-aware India, empowering citizens with the knowledge to save lives during critical cardiac emergencies.
