JAMMU, NOVEMBER 17: The 3rd edition of the Jammu Midnight Marathon brought together thousands of fitness enthusiasts as Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, led the event at M.A Stadium. Organised by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Real Time Sports, the midnight run turned into a vibrant celebration of health, fitness, and community spirit.
The marathon, held last night and continuing into the early hours of the morning, marked another major milestone in strengthening the fitness culture across Jammu and Kashmir. The presence of senior government leaders further highlighted the administration’s growing commitment to sports and youth development.
Leadership Calls for Stronger Sports Ecosystem
Speaking on the occasion, Sports Minister Satish Sharma emphasised the government’s vision to build a robust sports ecosystem in J&K.
“Our priority is to create an environment where athletes have access to high-quality training, world-class facilities, and regular competitive exposure,” he said.
He added that large-scale events like the Jammu Midnight Marathon encourage community participation and motivate young people to adopt fitness as a part of daily life.
“A healthy J&K is our commitment. We will continue expanding initiatives that support athletes and promote overall well-being,” he stated.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani also praised the growing sports culture in the Union Territory.
“The enthusiasm seen today reflects the evolving sports culture in J&K. Under the dynamic leadership of our Chief Minister, we are upgrading sports infrastructure, supporting athletes at all levels, and inspiring citizens to embrace an active lifestyle,” he said.
More Than 600 Runners Join the Fitness Celebration
The marathon witnessed an impressive participation of over 600 runners from different age groups. The stadium and adjoining tracks came alive with energetic crowds, cheering teams, colourful lights, and a festive atmosphere that continued late into the night.
Participants competed across two phases, ensuring that both amateur and trained runners could take part. The event showcased the increasing enthusiasm of J&K residents toward fitness-focused community events.
Strengthening Sports Infrastructure in J&K
Senior officials from the J&K Sports Council, including the Secretary, attended the event and reiterated ongoing initiatives aimed at upgrading sports infrastructure across the UT. These include improved coaching systems, enhanced athlete support programmes, and wider access to training facilities.
