NOV 19: The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT Delhi) to enhance collaboration in advanced telecom technologies and global standardisation efforts.
Signed on 19 November 2025 at IIIT Delhi, the MoU formalizes cooperation in areas including next-generation networks, AI-driven telecom solutions, and development of India-centric standards and test frameworks. The agreement was inked by Shri Rakesh Desai, DDG (Fixed Access), TEC, and Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Assistant Professor, IIIT-Delhi, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.
Under the partnership, TEC and IIIT Delhi will undertake joint studies on emerging technologies such as 6G, optical communication, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), mmWave, mMIMO, SDN, NFV, and Li-Fi. The collaboration will also explore renewable energy technologies to improve energy efficiency in telecom infrastructure. A key focus will be strengthening India’s contributions to global bodies like ITU and 3GPP through enhanced participation in standardisation activities.
The initiative aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by fostering indigenous research, design, and manufacturing capabilities in telecom. It aims to build robust, secure, energy-efficient, and future-ready communication systems tailored to national requirements.
TEC plays a pivotal role in setting India’s telecom standards and ensuring interoperability and quality across networks, while IIIT Delhi is a leading institute known for its cutting-edge research in 5G/6G, ICT, and optical communications.
This partnership is expected to drive innovation, bolster India’s global presence in telecom standardisation, and support the nation’s sustainable development goals.
