JAMMU, July 10: Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma has intensified the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’s campaign for the restoration of statehood by urging people from across the Union Territory to participate in the party’s proposed “Jammu Chalo” rally scheduled for July 12 in Jammu.
Ahead of the event, Sharma appealed to party workers, supporters, and members of civil society to unite in support of the demand for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Through public outreach and social media, he reaffirmed the National Conference’s commitment to what the party describes as one of its foremost political priorities.
A campaign poster released ahead of the rally prominently features Chief Minister Omar Abdullah alongside Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma under the slogan, “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq – Statehood for Jammu & Kashmir, Jammu Chalo!” The programme is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM on July 12 at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, Jammu, where Omar Abdullah is expected to address party workers and the public.
The mobilisation drive comes as the National Conference steps up its efforts to build public support around the restoration of statehood. Party leaders have been reaching out to various organisations, delegations, and local representatives across Jammu and Kashmir to encourage participation in the gathering.
According to party sources, Satish Sharma has held interactions with several delegations from both the Jammu and Kashmir regions, assuring them that their concerns would be raised through democratic and constitutional means. He has reiterated that the rally is intended to bring together people from different sections of society in support of the party’s demand.
Preparations for the event are also being coordinated at the organisational level. Earlier this week, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary chaired a review meeting with senior National Conference leaders in Jammu to assess logistical arrangements and ensure smooth conduct of the rally. Discussions focused on public mobilisation, transportation, volunteer coordination, and other administrative aspects of the programme.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to outline the government’s vision for governance, development, and the constitutional future of Jammu and Kashmir during his address. The National Conference has consistently maintained that the restoration of statehood remains one of its key political commitments and has repeatedly called for its early implementation.
Political observers believe the July 12 rally could emerge as one of the National Conference’s largest public programmes in Jammu since the formation of the elected government. The event is expected to draw supporters from various districts and serve as a platform for the party to reiterate its political agenda before a large public audience.
With the final phase of preparations underway, party leaders have expressed confidence that the rally will witness significant participation from across the Union Territory. The programme is expected to reinforce the National Conference’s campaign for statehood while highlighting issues related to governance, development, and democratic representation.
As political activity gathers momentum in Jammu and Kashmir, the upcoming rally is likely to remain a key event in the region’s political calendar, with Satish Sharma playing a prominent role in mobilising public support and Omar Abdullah expected to deliver the central address.
