New Delhi, August 12, 2026: The Government of India is expanding citizen-centric digital public services through platforms such as UMANG and DigiLocker, strengthening efforts to make government services more accessible, paperless and convenient for people across the country.

The initiatives are part of the broader Digital India programme, launched in July 2015 with the objective of improving digital access and using technology to deliver government services more efficiently.

Thousands of Services Available on UMANG and DigiLocker

According to information shared by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha, 2,575 services were available on the UMANG platform as of July 31, 2026.

These include 880 Central Government services and 1,695 State Government services, allowing citizens to access a wide range of facilities through a single digital platform.

DigiLocker has also witnessed substantial expansion. As of the same date, 5,437 document types and services were available on the platform, comprising 661 Central Government and 4,776 State Government offerings.

Millions of Citizens Using Digital Platforms

UMANG has crossed 11.66 crore registered users and recorded around 798 crore transactions during the last three years.

DigiLocker has more than 72.43 crore registered users, while approximately 72.86 crore document access transactions have been recorded over the past three years.

The growing adoption of both platforms reflects the increasing role of digital tools in accessing government services and documents without depending entirely on physical offices.

Common Service Centres Expand Rural Digital Access

The government is also strengthening digital access in rural and remote areas through Common Service Centres (CSCs).

As of June 30, 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were functional at the Gram Panchayat level across the country. Of these, 70,069 were operated by women Village Level Entrepreneurs, providing an additional avenue for women to participate in digital service delivery.

CSCs offer services covering government schemes, banking, insurance, financial services, pensions and utility payments, helping bridge the digital access gap in underserved communities.

Focus on Secure and Paperless Governance

UMANG and DigiLocker are available through both mobile applications and web platforms, allowing citizens to access services from different locations.

The platforms are also integrated with key elements of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), including Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu. Such integration enables digital authentication, document verification and paperless service delivery.

The government has also emphasised consent-based document sharing and secure authentication to improve trust and efficiency in digital transactions.

Multilingual Services and Digital Literacy

To make digital governance more inclusive, the government is promoting services in multiple Indian languages while working to improve accessibility and user experience.

Digital literacy initiatives such as PMGDISHA (Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan) are also being used to encourage greater awareness and adoption of digital platforms.

Government departments and State Governments continue to be onboarded to UMANG and DigiLocker, increasing the number of services and digital documents available to citizens.

The expansion of these platforms marks another step towards a more accessible, paperless and citizen-focused digital governance system, with technology playing an increasingly important role in delivering public services across India.
