2 Aug: The agricultural landscape of Jammu is poised for dynamic transformation as Anil Gupta officially took over as the Director of Agriculture Jammu on August 1 at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo. His appointment marks a promising shift in the region’s approach to sustainable farming, modernization, and farmer-centric governance.
Gupta, a seasoned expert with a strong track record in the agriculture sector, brings with him a vision grounded in technology, inclusivity, and impact-driven strategies. His assumption of office comes at a crucial juncture when climate-smart agriculture, diversification, and income stability for farmers are at the forefront of policy needs in the region.
A warm reception was organized by the department to welcome him into his new role. The event was attended by key officials including Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Joint Director (SLUB) Sohan Singh, sectoral heads, senior officers, and staff, who pledged to work in unison under his leadership.
In his first address as Director, Gupta laid out his clear intent — to ensure timely implementation of government schemes, promote technology adoption, and improve service delivery across all cadres. He emphasized a bottom-up approach, highlighting the importance of staying connected with farming communities and ensuring that policy benefits translate into real change on the ground.
Crucially, he acknowledged the internal service-related concerns of the department and committed to resolving them on priority — a step that promises stronger institutional morale and efficiency.
Jammu’s agriculture sector has immense potential, but challenges like low productivity, market volatility, and lack of tech-integration continue to hinder growth. With Anil Gupta at the helm, there is renewed hope that the department will move towards data-backed decision-making, capacity building for farmers, and holistic development of agri-allied sectors.
The task ahead is complex, but with experienced leadership, collaborative execution, and innovation at its core, Jammu’s farming future looks set for a strong harvest.
