AUG 02: A major step towards rural economic empowerment was marked today as Minister Javed Ranaa inaugurated the ‘Akaanksha Haat’ in Poonch. The initiative is designed to offer a vibrant platform for self-help groups (SHGs), local artisans, and entrepreneurs — especially women — to showcase and sell their handmade products.
Speaking at the launch event, the Minister described Akaanksha Haat as more than just a marketplace. He said it represents a movement toward self-reliance, women-led development, and inclusive growth, particularly in border districts like Poonch that are rich in tradition and talent but often lack direct market linkages.
The Haat is aligned with the #VocalForLocal campaign, aiming to promote indigenous crafts, sustainable livelihoods, and rural entrepreneurship. From handwoven fabrics to locally produced organic goods and handcrafted artifacts, the stalls at Akaanksha Haat reflect the diversity and creativity of the region.
Minister Javed Rana emphasized the importance of empowering women-led self-help groups, stating that rural women are not just contributors to the economy but are capable of driving change at the grassroots level. He further mentioned that initiatives like this will create new economic opportunities, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen community-based entrepreneurship.
Officials from the District Administration, Rural Development Department, and members of various SHGs were present during the launch. Many women entrepreneurs shared their journey and expressed hope that the Akaanksha Haat would help scale their businesses and connect with wider markets.
The event concluded with cultural performances and a tour of the exhibition stalls. The Akaanksha Haat is expected to become a regular feature, acting as a bridge between rural producers and urban consumers.
This initiative sets the tone for a more empowered, self-sustaining rural economy rooted in local identity and collective progress.
