4 Aug: In moments of tragedy, a personal gesture of compassion speaks louder than any official protocol. On August 4, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha visited Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu to check on the health and recovery of the injured family members of Late Shri Rajinder Singh, the SDM Ramnagar, who tragically lost his life in a landslide incident on August 1 in Dharmari, District Reasi.
The calamity claimed not only the life of Shri Rajinder Singh (JKAS, 2011 batch) but also that of his young son, leaving his wife, daughter, and other relatives grievously injured.
By personally visiting the hospital, the Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to standing with its officers and citizens—not only in policy, but in presence. During the visit, he was briefed by a team of senior doctors about the health condition of the late officer’s wife and daughter as well as the other injured members of the family. He directed the hospital administration to ensure the highest standard of medical care and to leave no stone unturned in facilitating their recovery.
This tragic episode is a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers faced by civil servants, particularly those serving in remote and disaster-prone areas like Udhampur and Reasi. Shri Rajinder Singh was known as a dedicated officer, committed to the people and administrative duties of his jurisdiction.
The LG’s empathetic outreach not only honors the memory of a fallen officer but also reassures the administrative community that their sacrifices are deeply valued. It also underscores the need for stronger disaster mitigation infrastructure, particularly in hilly districts prone to landslides and flash floods.
In the face of loss, the support system of governance must reflect humanity and healing, and this visit sets an example of leadership grounded in empathy.
As the injured recover and the administration copes with the loss, one hopes this tragedy fuels renewed efforts toward climate resilience, safer infrastructure, and greater support mechanisms for government functionaries and their families.
