NOV 15: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J. P. Nadda inaugurated the 10th anniversary celebrations of AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) Pharmacy at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event marked a decade of expanding access to affordable medicines and highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening universal health coverage.
Launched in 2015, AMRIT pharmacies have played a vital role in providing life-saving and essential medicines at discounts ranging from 50% to 90%. This initiative has particularly benefitted low-income patients, reducing treatment costs and ensuring access to quality healthcare products. Over the past decade, AMRIT pharmacies have served more than 6.85 crore patients, dispensing medicines valued at over ₹17,000 crore at MRP and generating savings exceeding ₹8,500 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nadda praised HLL Lifecare Ltd. for effectively implementing the AMRIT initiative. He emphasized the government’s vision, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to make healthcare affordable and accessible for every citizen. While all AIIMS currently have AMRIT outlets, the minister stressed the goal of expanding the network to every medical college and district hospital in the country. HLL has pledged to double the number of outlets from 255 to 500 in the near future.
Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava highlighted AMRIT’s foundational goal—ensuring equitable access to affordable, quality medicines. She commended the dedication of HLL and the AMRIT teams, who have worked with “energy, enthusiasm, and spirit” to strengthen the network.
During the event, Shri Nadda inaugurated 10 new outlets and launched AMRIT ITes Eco Green Version 2.0, a sustainable digital platform designed to enhance efficiency and transparency. Additional launches included a Customized My Stamp, a Mobile Pharmacy Van for rural NCR outreach, and a 24×7 National Contact Centre to support citizens with real-time information.
