OCT 29: On World Stroke Day 2025, the Ministry of Ayush emphasized the growing importance of preventive and holistic healthcare in managing stroke—one of the leading causes of death and disability in India. The Ministry highlighted how Ayush systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy can complement modern medicine through integrative and rehabilitative approaches.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, said that the increasing burden of stroke calls for comprehensive, integrative health strategies. He noted that Ayush systems, with their focus on prevention, long-term rehabilitation, and lifestyle correction, can significantly enhance conventional stroke care and improve patient outcomes.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, stated that Ayush systems collectively offer a holistic framework for understanding and managing complex neurological disorders like stroke. He added that the Ministry continues to strengthen collaborative and translational research to validate traditional therapies and promote their wider use in public health programs.

Ayush practices emphasize balance between the body, mind, and environment, focusing not only on treatment but also on resilience and recurrence prevention. In Ayurveda, stroke is understood as an imbalance of Vata dosha, treated through detoxifying and restorative therapies aimed at improving nerve function and circulation. Likewise, Homoeopathy has shown potential in aiding post-stroke recovery and improving quality of life.

By combining the strengths of Ayush and modern medicine, the Ministry aims to reduce the national stroke burden, enhance rehabilitation outcomes, and promote holistic wellness as part of India’s evolving healthcare framework.
