13 May: JAMMU: The Department of Sports and Physical Education at Cluster University of Jammu organised a Kabaddi Mats Launching Ceremony at GGM Science College as part of efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and encourage participation in indigenous sports.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor K. S. Chandrasekar along with Anupam Goswami and Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, besides faculty members, students, and sports enthusiasts.
Officials said the introduction of Kabaddi mats would help provide better training facilities for students and support the promotion of traditional Indian sports within educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork, leadership, and physical fitness among youth. He encouraged students to actively participate in sports activities and strive for excellence at district, national, and international levels.
Speakers at the event highlighted Kabaddi’s deep connection with India’s sporting heritage and its growing popularity across the country. They noted that modern infrastructure and institutional support are essential for nurturing young talent and encouraging wider participation in indigenous games.
The programme also focused on the role of universities in promoting holistic development by balancing academics with physical education and extracurricular activities.
Sports officials stated that improved facilities such as Kabaddi mats can enhance training standards and provide students with opportunities to compete professionally in the sport.
Students welcomed the initiative and expressed enthusiasm about the university’s efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and revive interest in traditional games.
The ceremony concluded with encouragement for young athletes to maintain physical fitness, sportsmanship, and dedication while representing their institutions in various competitions.
