JUNE 25: The Hon’ble Chief Minister today conducted an on-site inspection of the upcoming Gulmarg Convention Centre, taking stock of the progress of work and directing officials to expedite the remaining tasks to ensure its early completion. The visit reflects the government’s focused approach to strengthening infrastructure and promoting tourism and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by senior officials and project engineers, the Chief Minister toured the convention centre premises and reviewed the quality of construction, timelines, and logistical arrangements. He emphasised the strategic importance of the project in enhancing Gulmarg’s profile as not only a premier tourist destination but also a hub for major national and international events.
Addressing the officials on-site, the Chief Minister stated that the Gulmarg Convention Centre has the potential to host a wide range of activities, including business conferences, cultural festivals, tourism expos, and government summits. He emphasised the importance of aligning the project’s completion with upcoming tourist seasons and event calendars.
“The convention centre will be a game-changer for Gulmarg, providing a world-class platform for large-scale events and boosting allied sectors such as hospitality, transport, and local handicrafts,” the Chief Minister said. He further stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination, quality assurance, and adherence to strict deadlines to avoid any delay in commissioning the facility.
The Chief Minister also directed the Tourism Department to start preparing a calendar of events and a promotional strategy to market the convention centre globally once it becomes operational. Officials were asked to ensure the facility is equipped with modern amenities and technologically advanced features to cater to both domestic and international visitors.
During the visit, he appreciated the efforts of the workers and engineers engaged in the project and assured full government support in resolving any pending issues that could affect the pace of work. He reiterated his government’s commitment to fast-tracking key infrastructure projects that can generate employment, promote investment, and position Jammu and Kashmir as a year-round destination.
The Gulmarg Convention Centre is poised to become a landmark destination for tourism-driven growth in the region, complementing the natural beauty of Gulmarg with modern infrastructure and economic opportunity.
