OCT 23: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today chaired a review meeting of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), emphasizing the need to leverage regional strengths and actively involve states in building a robust bioinnovation ecosystem.
During the meeting, Dr. Singh assessed ongoing projects, including biofoundries, regional innovation hubs, and the mapping of states based on their biotechnology potential. He highlighted the importance of strengthening local biotech ecosystems through collaboration with state governments, universities, and industries, ensuring the sector contributes effectively to India’s bioeconomy.
“Biotechnology has evolved into a key pillar of national development, driving innovation across healthcare, agriculture, environment, and industry,” he said, stressing its role as an enabler of economic and social transformation.
Dr. Singh also felicitated DBT Joint Secretary Ms. Ekta Vishnoi, who won a silver medal at the World Powerlifting Championship, noting that her achievement reflects India’s growing strength in sports and science, exemplifying perseverance, resilience, and discipline.
DBT officials shared updates on initiatives aimed at expanding biofoundries and fostering industry-academia partnerships, enabling rapid design, testing, and scaling of biotechnological solutions. The Minister underlined the Bio E3 Cells initiative, part of the broader Bio E3 framework emphasizing entrepreneurship, education, and empowerment, designed to align national priorities with regional biotech potential.
Dr. Singh concluded by urging the DBT to accelerate project implementation, deepen state-level engagement, and support innovation-led startups, positioning India as a global hub for biotechnology-driven innovation and sustainable growth.
