JAN : 10 In a significant step towards strengthening transparent and citizen-centric governance, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing digitisation of revenue records in Hajin. The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the initiative and ensuring that land records are made accurate, accessible, and tamper-proof within a stipulated timeframe.

During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the pace and quality of digitisation work being carried out by the Revenue Department. She emphasized that digitisation of land records is a cornerstone of good governance, as it not only simplifies administrative processes but also safeguards the rights of landowners by minimizing errors, disputes, and scope for manipulation.

DC Indu Kanwal issued clear directions to the concerned officers to complete the digitisation process within the prescribed timeline, leaving no room for delays. She stressed that speed must not come at the cost of accuracy and instructed officials to follow strict validation and verification protocols before finalising records. According to her, even minor discrepancies in land data can lead to major legal and administrative complications for citizens.

Highlighting the importance of coordination, the Deputy Commissioner called for stronger inter-departmental collaboration among revenue officials, data operators, and supervisory staff. She said seamless coordination is essential to ensure uniformity, consistency, and credibility of digitised land records across the tehsil and district levels.

The DC also interacted with field officials and reviewed the infrastructure and manpower deployed for the task. She directed supervisory officers to conduct regular monitoring and random checks to ensure that data entry aligns with original records and ground realities. Any lapses or negligence, she cautioned, would be viewed seriously.

Digitisation of revenue records is a key component of the broader Digital Governance and Land Reforms agenda in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at enhancing transparency, improving service delivery, and reducing public grievances related to land ownership and mutations. Once completed, the initiative will allow citizens to access land records online, apply for revenue services digitally, and track applications without unnecessary visits to government offices.

DC Bandipora noted that accurate digital land records will also facilitate faster implementation of development projects, smoother land acquisition processes, and improved planning at the district level. “Reliable land data is critical for development, investment, and public trust in the administration,” she observed.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the district administration to align with the vision of the LG Administration and UT Government for modern, transparent, and accountable governance. She urged officials to treat the digitisation exercise as a public service responsibility rather than a routine task.

The inspection reflects the Bandipora administration’s proactive approach to reforming legacy systems and embracing technology-driven solutions. With strict timelines, validation mechanisms, and coordinated execution, the digitisation of revenue records in Hajin is expected to set a benchmark for accurate land record management, ultimately benefiting citizens and strengthening institutional trust
