Feb 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting dense fog, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several parts of the country today, impacting both northern and eastern regions.

According to the IMD, dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and West Uttar Pradesh, potentially affecting visibility and transportation during the early morning hours.

The weather agency has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over West Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, with these conditions expected to continue till tomorrow. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during outdoor activities.

In addition, the IMD stated that isolated thunderstorms and lightning activity are likely over East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the day. Such weather conditions may bring brief but intense rainfall along with strong winds.

The Western Himalayan Region is expected to witness scattered rainfall and snowfall activity till tomorrow. This includes higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where cold weather conditions continue to dominate.

Meteorological officials have urged people to follow advisories issued by local administrations, especially in areas prone to reduced visibility, slippery roads, and sudden weather changes. Farmers and travellers have also been advised to take necessary precautions.

The IMD continues to closely monitor the evolving weather systems and will issue updates as required. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official forecasts and alerts to minimise disruptions and ensure safety.
