MARCH 21: An awareness campaign focused on three new criminal laws was organized today in Tehsil Pargwal, under the directions of the District Administration Jammu. The initiative aimed to educate the public about the significant changes in the legal landscape and empower citizens with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities under the new laws.
The awareness session was presided over by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khour, Satish Kumar Sharma, who served as the chief guest. He explained key concepts such as the Zero FIR, E FIR, and the incorporation of audio-visual evidence in criminal cases. These provisions are designed to enhance the ease of filing complaints and ensure that evidence is captured in a way that can aid in the legal process, especially in cases involving sensitive crimes.
Senior Prosecuting Officer Rohit Tidyal was invited as the guest faculty and resource person for the event. He provided an in-depth explanation of the three new criminal laws, detailing their provisions and how they aim to strengthen the legal framework. One of the major aspects discussed was the introduction of a 7-day timeline for submitting medical reports by medical officers in rape cases. This provision ensures that crucial medical evidence is collected in a timely manner, making it easier for law enforcement to proceed with investigations.
Manjeet Singh also addressed the participants, highlighting key provisions of the new laws, including those focused on the protection of children. These provisions ensure that children’s rights are safeguarded in the criminal justice process, with an emphasis on their welfare and safety.
Principal GHSS, Balbir Kumar, presented the details of the three new laws through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, making it easier for the attendees to understand the practical implications of the laws. The use of visual aids helped clarify the complex legal language and illustrated how these laws will be applied in real-life situations.
To further ensure that the public remains informed, special booklets containing information on the new criminal laws were distributed by the Tehsil administration of Pargwal. These booklets serve as a handy reference for the general public to familiarize themselves with the details of the laws.
The event saw a large turnout, with active participation from the Incharge Police Post Pargwal, Amit Singh, Ex-BDC Chairperson Pargwal, Sarpanchs, Panchs, and a wide section of the general public from Tehsil Pargwal. The campaign successfully created awareness and encouraged citizens to engage with the legal system, empowering them to take advantage of the provisions offered by the new laws.
