OCT 10:The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) jointly hosted the ‘AI for Good – Impact India’ Conference 2025 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) in New Delhi, marking a significant step in fostering responsible and inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation. The summit brought together global AI leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and academia to explore how AI can drive sustainable digital transformation across key sectors.

Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), inaugurated the event alongside Mr. Bilel Jamoussi, Deputy Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau. In his address, Dr. Mittal emphasized both the opportunities and risks of AI, noting that while AI can make telecom networks intelligent, self-healing, and customer-friendly, it also brings challenges such as deepfakes, voice cloning, and financial fraud. He highlighted the government’s IndiaAI Mission worth $1.25 billion, which promotes a trusted, inclusive, and human-centric AI ecosystem aligned with global standards.

Mr. Jamoussi commended India’s leadership in responsible AI and its focus on digital inclusion. He stressed the need for global collaboration to address AI misuse, data privacy, and cybersecurity concerns while promoting innovation that benefits society.

The summit featured engaging sessions on AI Governance, AI and Cybersecurity, Quantum for Good, AI for Youth Safety, and Disaster Management through Autonomous Robotics. Discussions centered on AI safety, ethical frameworks, risk management, and standardisation to ensure global cooperation and responsible AI deployment.

The event also introduced the Innovation Factory India 2025, a platform by DoT and ITU that showcased cutting-edge AI solutions from startups addressing global challenges. The summit concluded with the AI Native Bharat 5G Build-a-Thon awards, recognizing young innovators for their groundbreaking AI/ML contributions in the telecom domain.

Through this collaborative initiative, India reaffirmed its position as a global leader in shaping ethical AI development, ensuring technology remains a tool for trust, inclusion, and progress.
