Farmers’ Welfare in Focus: ADDC Shopian Chairs Meeting on Agriculture & Allied Schemes

AUG 23: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, today chaired a comprehensive meeting of officers from agriculture and allied sectors at the Mini-Secretariat, Shopian. The meeting was convened to review the implementation status of key schemes including the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors in J&K (JKCIP).

During the review, Dr. Lone directed the concerned officers to ensure the timely and effective execution of all farmer-centric schemes, highlighting the importance of maximizing awareness campaigns so that beneficiaries at the grassroots level are fully covered. He emphasized inter-departmental coordination for improving outreach on crop insurance, agriculture credit support, and adoption of modern technology.

The ADDC urged officers to focus on the set targets within stipulated timelines to ensure farmers receive the intended benefits. He stressed removing bottlenecks in implementation, streamlining service delivery, and maintaining transparency in all processes.

Special emphasis was laid on the promotion of greenhouse and polyhouse farming to boost year-round vegetable cultivation and enhance productivity. The meeting also deliberated on establishing high-density apple orchards, rejuvenating old plantations, developing modern nursery infrastructure, and promoting innovative technologies to strengthen the horticulture sector.

Other points of discussion included agriculture credit disbursement, installation of the Kisan Knowledge Grid (KKG) app, Daksh Kisan registration, and monitoring the output of assets created under HADP.

Dr. Lone reiterated that farmer welfare remains the top priority and stressed the collective responsibility of agriculture and allied departments in transforming the district’s agricultural landscape.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO), District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO), district-level officers, and other concerned officials.
