OCT 12:Minister Javed Rana conducted a comprehensive review of the Forest Department’s ongoing initiatives in Anantnag, Kulgam, and Pulwama, emphasizing the importance of sustainable forest management, afforestation, and eco-tourism development. The review aimed at strengthening environmental conservation efforts while promoting community participation in forest protection and resource management.

During the field visits, the Minister assessed the progress of various plantation drives, soil conservation measures, and eco-tourism projects implemented by the Forest Department. He urged officials to intensify afforestation activities, particularly in ecologically sensitive and degraded areas, to restore biodiversity and improve ecological balance. Javed Rana stressed that large-scale tree plantation drives must be complemented by scientific planning and proper maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability.

Highlighting the potential of eco-tourism, the Minister encouraged the Forest Department to develop forest-based tourism initiatives that generate employment opportunities while promoting awareness of environmental conservation among locals and visitors. He emphasized that eco-tourism projects should be designed to minimize ecological footprints and preserve the natural heritage of the region.

In addition to afforestation and tourism, Javed Rana stressed the need for soil and watershed conservation to prevent land degradation and support agriculture in forest-adjacent areas. He directed officials to prepare robust plantation plans in consultation with local communities and stakeholders, ensuring maximum participation and ownership.

The Minister also urged the department to streamline forest clearance processes to facilitate timely implementation of approved projects while maintaining environmental safeguards. He emphasized that collaboration between the government, communities, and environmental experts is key to achieving sustainable forest management goals.

Officials assured the Minister that all measures would be taken to enhance plantation coverage, conserve soil, and expand eco-tourism opportunities, aligning with J&K’s broader ecological and developmental objectives.

The visit concluded with Javed Rana reaffirming the government’s commitment to forest conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental stewardship, ensuring that the Union Territory continues to prioritize ecological integrity alongside economic growth.
