AUG 09: As part of the ongoing National Tribal Festival in the picturesque Gurez Valley, the Chief Minister visited a vibrant exhibition featuring stalls set up by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of tribal women from different parts of the region. The stalls showcased a wide range of traditional crafts, handmade textiles, organic products, and locally sourced delicacies, each reflecting the rich cultural identity of the tribal communities of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Chief Minister interacted warmly with the women artisans, listening to their stories of entrepreneurship, resilience, and community solidarity. He lauded their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to keeping age-old traditions alive while adapting to contemporary market needs. He noted that these SHGs not only preserve cultural heritage but also serve as engines of economic empowerment and self-reliance for tribal families.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to the upliftment of tribal communities, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of capacity building, financial support, and market linkages for rural artisans. He assured that the administration would extend assistance to expand the reach of tribal products to national and international platforms through initiatives such as e-commerce partnerships, trade fairs, and cultural showcases.
He also praised the role of SHGs in promoting sustainable livelihoods, particularly in remote areas where traditional skills form the backbone of the local economy. By tapping into the growing demand for authentic and eco-friendly products, these women are turning heritage into a viable source of income while inspiring younger generations to value their roots.
The Chief Minister encouraged the artisans to explore innovation in design and packaging without compromising authenticity, thereby attracting a wider consumer base. He reaffirmed that the government remains committed to empowering women-led SHGs, fostering entrepreneurship, and preserving the cultural legacy of tribal communities in Gurez and beyond.
The visit concluded with the Chief Minister expressing optimism that such festivals will continue to serve as a platform for cultural exchange, economic growth, and community pride.
