10 July: NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, while confirming that the southwest monsoon has now covered the entire country, marking a significant milestone in this year’s rainy season.

According to weather officials, widespread rainfall is expected over several parts of north India over the coming days. The IMD has advised residents in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and adjoining regions to remain cautious as heavy showers may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to daily life.

The department stated that active monsoon conditions are likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts. Local administrations have been urged to remain prepared for any weather-related emergencies and ensure timely response measures.

With the monsoon now extending across the entire country, most regions are expected to receive seasonal rainfall that will benefit agriculture, replenish reservoirs, and improve water availability. The arrival of the monsoon across all states is considered an important development for the ongoing kharif cropping season.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to follow traffic advisories issued by local administrations. People living in low-lying areas have also been asked to stay alert for possible waterlogging and localized flooding.

Disaster management agencies are monitoring the weather situation closely and coordinating with state governments to respond promptly to any emergencies. Civic bodies have been instructed to ensure proper drainage systems and remove waterlogging at vulnerable locations.

Agricultural experts welcomed the widespread monsoon coverage, noting that timely rainfall is essential for sowing major kharif crops such as paddy, maize, pulses, and oilseeds. Adequate rainfall during this period is expected to support crop growth and improve agricultural productivity.

However, experts also cautioned that excessive rainfall over short durations could damage standing crops and disrupt transportation. Farmers have been advised to monitor local weather forecasts and take appropriate precautions to protect their fields and stored produce.

The IMD continues to monitor evolving weather systems and has urged citizens to stay updated through official forecasts and advisories. Residents have been encouraged to avoid flooded roads, secure loose objects during strong winds, and report emergencies to local authorities.

Officials said the advancement of the southwest monsoon across the country marks the completion of its seasonal progression and is expected to bring sustained rainfall to several regions in the coming weeks.

As weather conditions remain active, authorities have emphasized the importance of preparedness and public cooperation to minimize the impact of heavy rainfall while ensuring the safety of citizens.
